The OUC $2,000 Rebate: Free Money or a Trap?

Orlando Utilities Commission will pay you $2,000 to install a battery. But if you take the check, they change your power rate. We help you do the math so you don’t get stuck with a bad deal.

Get Paid to Install Storage

In an effort to stabilize the grid, OUC offers one of the best direct cash incentives in Florida.

The Offer
  • Rate: You get $150 per kWh of battery storage installed.
  • Cap: The maximum rebate is $2,000 per home.
  • Example: Install a Tesla Powerwall 3 (13.5 kWh) -> You receive the full $2,000 check.

Requirement: “You must use an OUC Preferred or Gold Status contractor (like NationPro partners) to fast-track the inspection.

The Catch: "TruNet" vs. Net Metering

Here is what other solar companies won’t tell you. OUC has two solar rate plans. You have to pick one.

Option A: Traditional Net Metering (No Rebate)

  • The Good: You get full 1:1 Retail Credit (approx. 11¢/kWh) for every unit of power you send to the grid.
  • The Bad: You do not get the $2,000 battery rebate.

Option B: The Battery Rebate (TruNet Rate)

  • The Good: You get the $2,000 cash upfront.
  • The Bad: You forfeit Net Metering. OUC will only pay you the "Community Solar Rate" (approx. 4.6¢/kWh) for your exports

The Verdict: “If you take the rebate (Option B), you MUST have a battery. You cannot afford to sell power to OUC for 4 cents. You must store it and use it yourself.”

Why Orlando Needs Backup Power

  • A solar system without a battery turns off when the OUC grid fails. A system with a battery isolates your home and keeps the AC running. Since OUC is paying $2,000 towards the battery, it is the smartest storm insurance you can buy.
